Emergency Ride Home
Emergency Ride Home programs give commuters peace of mind so that they can use sustainable commute modes without worrying about getting stranded in an emergency. Emergencies include the illness of a family member or missing a carpool ride due to unscheduled overtime.
Two such programs are available in Santa Cruz County.
1 – For all commuters who live or work in Santa Cruz County – Offered by Commute Solutions
RideSurance: Your Commuter Safety Net
RideSurance offers participants the security of knowing that when they use a sustainable travel option to get to work, they can catch a taxi ride home in an emergency. Many commuters prefer to use alternative commute mode, but continue to drive alone due to concerns about being unable to respond in an emergency during the workday.
RideSurance is a must-have insurance policy for sustainable commuters. Upon registration, participants receive vouchers good for a taxi ride home in an emergency. In the event an emergency ride is taken, the participant’s co-pay is only $10 regardless of how much the cab ride actually costs. The program is open to people who carpool, vanpool, ride the bus, ride a bike or walk to work or school.
RideSurance is funded, in part, by a grant from the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District.
