Vanpooling

Among commuters with longer commutes (greater than 40 miles round trip) vanpooling is a popular rideshare option. Unlike carpooling where drivers and riders often switch off, vanpooling is often a more formal system with a designated driver and fees charged to vanpool riders. When six or more people share the cost of one vehicle, everyone saves money and is less stressed. While vanpooling takes longer to set up than carpooling, vanpoolers will attest that the benefits are well worth it!
How to get started vanpooling
- Look in the 511 Rideshare database for vanpools that match your commute schedule and home and work locations
- If you don’t find any matches, and want to explore starting a new vanpool, contact Commute Solutions
- Begin gathering names and contact info of other commuters from your worksite who are interested in vanpooling together – this will become your “interest list”
- Once you have an interest list, we can work with you, your employer, and a vanpool leasing company to get your new vanpool on the road!
